KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian police have arrested three
people, a Pakistani man and two Malaysians, as part of
investigations into last month's deadly Erawan shrine
bombing in Bangkok, Malaysia's national police chief
 said on Monday.

"I confirm we have arrested three people, two men and one
woman, and one of them is Pakistani," dpa quoted
Malaysian Police Inspector-General Khalid Abu Bakar
 as saying.

The Star newspaper online reported that the three were
detained "a few days ago" but gave no further details of the
identities of those taken into custody, according to AFP.

"We are assisting Thai police regarding this probe.
We feel these three (people) can assist us in the investigation,"
The Star quoted Pol Insp Gen Khalid as saying.

Malaysian authorities currently had no plans to hand them
over to Thai police, he added.

"We are working together with our Thai counterparts.
Let us investigate the matter first," he said.

The attack killed 20 people, the majority of them Chinese
visitors, and injured another 130 people at the Erawan shrine
in the capital's bustling downtown Ratchaprasong district
on Aug 17.

Thai authorities have arrested two foreign men, one  carrying
a forged Turkish passport and the other   Chinese passport,
and have arrest warrants for nine other suspects.
