Drought crisis should solve carefully!!

Drought crisis is very serious problem now because we

have a little water to use and must wait for more water

when rain is fall which forecast to arrive in August.

The amount of rainfall this year has dropped by 50 %

compare to the previous year, said Agriculture and

Cooperatives Pitipong Phuengboon Na Ayudhaya.

The taps have run dry in Pathum Thani as the drought

cuts raw water supplies to the Provincial Waterworks

Authority’s processing plant in Thanyaburi distric,

forcing a suspension to houses in Thanyaburi,Lam Luk Ka

and Nong Sua districts.

Pathum Thani is now suffering the heaviest drought in

30 years, all main rivers and tributaries have dried up

The PWA’s Thanyaburi waterworks office has asked

municipalities and other local administration organization

in the three districts to deliver water to those households

by truck.

Thanyaburi,Nong Sua and Lam Luk Ka districts have been

declared disaster zones.

Residents in Muang ,Sam Khok and other districts where

industrial estates are located have not been affected as

water plants in the area can still directly take water from

the Chao Phraya River to produce tap water.

Thailand had been hit by the El Nino dry water pattern

since last year, but the amount of rainwater in the past

year was more than during the 1997 El Nino crisis because

there is some rain in January and February, said Mr.Wanchai

Sakudomchai director –general ,Meteorological Department

(TMD)

TMD forecast suggest that tropical stroms will arrive in

Central region in August, which should replenish the water

supply in the Bhumibol and Sirikit dams.

To solve the drought crisis ,the government has order

Provincial governors to work with the military and police

to stop farmers from diverting water for their farmland ,

following its move to cut dam water releases to reserves

water for consumption.

“Otherwise ,we can not survive until August when rainfall

is forecast to arrive”

Anupong Paojinda,Interior Minister said the cabinet

decided that the water discharges from fours majors dams

in Chao Phraya River basin will be cut from 28 million

cubic metres per day to 18 million cu/m.

The reduction in dam water releases will begin tomorrow.

Meanwhile ,the drought crisis in Thailand could worsen

and drag on to next year if there is no rainfall in the North

and Northeast regions by September,Meteorological

Department (TMD) director general Mr Wanchai said.

His Majesty the King has allowed the Rama IX reservoir

which is under the care of the royal foundation,to be use

to ease people suffering during the dry season every year,

said Lalit Thanomsingh, assistant secretary to the

 Chaipattan Foundation.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn,

The foundation’s chairwoman ,said people affected

by water shortage must be helped.”It is alright if the

road could be damaged, but the water must be use to help

people first,” Mr Lalit quoted the princess as saying.

In my viewpoint, the drought crisis which cause by El Nino

Crisis should solve carefully to least effect to all people in

short run and make a plan to solve problem in the long run.

1.An artesian well and Monkey Cheek Project which are

the source to provide water should plan and implement

effectively in all area.

2.The amount of water discharges from major dams should

calculate accurately to make sure we will not meet

the shortage of water supply to use in daily life

in the drought crisis and still have water to supply

agricultural  area.

3.Knowledge to people and farmers is important.

The popularity to economize water as much as we can

in daily life must foster to the youth so that it can be

 the base in solving problem.

Knowledge to farmers what kind of plant to cultivate at

what  time of period can help to solve the drought crisis

also.

Sincerely Yours.
