on charges of illegal assembly by forming a public gathering
of more than five people in defiance of the order of the
National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) was critizied.
The student were arrested on June 26,following their rally
against the military regime. The 12-day dentension period
is set to expired tomorrow.
The students refused to stand trial in military court
because
they refused the military regime.
The arrest was critizied from both local and international
human rights defenders.
In his weekly “Returning Happiness to the People”TV
programme last Friday,Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-
cha said he didn’t want to blame the students for staging
the protest and demanding restoration democracy, saying
they were acting on their consciences. He also indicated
he was willing to help out if the students agree to talk
sense with the government.
In my viewpoint,I do not believe that the Dao Din
students
were acting on their consciences. They are students, their
duty are studying and they should know that at this time
the country want peace,it is not about proper time to show
up their activity against military regime.
If they want freedom, why they refused to bail themselves
out or allow bail to be arranged for them by their supporter,
claimimg that to do so would be tantamount to recognizing
the military court that they have
rejected from the start.
Although I believe the students were not acting by
themselves ,I think they should be released from jail
because they are only students, dissuasion is enough
for them.
If the military court judge them false and do not release
them this will lead to more criticism and the others
political conflict which is not good in the situation of
reforming our country to true democracy.
It should be on consciences of Thai people to talk
and do what is proper in this period of the country,
to provide the country in peace and unity again.
