International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8
every year,the first held in 1911.The celebration ranges
from
general celebration of respect ,appreciation and love
towards
women to a celebration
for women’s economic,political
and social achievement.
The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2015 is
“Empowering Women,Empowering Humanity:Picture it!”
Thailand formed National Commission on Woman’s
Affairs on March 8,1989.The object is to promote
women role in Thai society.
From that time till nowadays it is only 26 years
compare with over 100 years of fighting by
International Ladies’Garment Workers’Union.
Play role of Thai women
In the past Thai women role are as wife and housekeeper,
they clean house ,cook food and take care everybody
in family.An old words with make me laugh is
“Women are
buffalo and Men are humanity” it imply that
women are foolish and labour class their value only come
from their beauty
and how they service their family.
As time go by,everything changed a little,Thai women still
have to play their role as wife with more duty to make
money
into the house.Thai men expect that wife should be
beautiful
and clever but infact beautiful women are not always
clever
and clecer women are not always beautiful although there
are
still the opposite side of these also.So nowadays Thai
women
are single and there are many divorce in Thai society.
Even though many marriage couple are still live as
family but they live with their patient not because
they are happy together that is funny but is not amused
in real life.
Nevertheless Thailand is one of the first country in
Asia to allow women to elect their representative in
1932. There are 47 % of Thai women as labor force in
business sectors with the most in Asia-Pacific but still
have discrimination againt gender.
In political area although there are not conditions and
legal restrictions, there are still fews of women in
parliament and cabinet.Thailand had first female
Prime Minister ,her mane is Ms.Yingluck Shinnawatra who
did
many shame and Thai people always laugh at her.
With these limitations,but there are also the fact that
Thai
women nowsday have higher graduation and have a greater
role in many areas accompany with the good news that
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha accelerate the push of
legal equality of gender to decrease conflict in Thai
society.
I still hope that in the future Thai women can play more
role
and do more for our country.
